Baby, it was cold outside!

The fans and flag football players at Dye-Clay YMCA on Moody Road in Orange Park had to bundle up Saturday morning, Nov. 21, as the temperatures plummeted overnight and were in the 40s at the 9 a.m. game time. So much for global warming! Click on the photo bar above to view more cold weather and football action.

Bonus Talk of the Town column

I am now in the third week of my status as a “retired” newspaper editor. I put retired in quote marks because I don’t want anyone (especially, the unemployment office) to get the idea that I am not interested in future job opportunities, because I am.

I just know that it is going to be difficult for me to find a position with the current state of the economy, my age and my occupation. There just are not that many demands for older weekly newspaper editors in Clay County. Or Northeast Florida for that matter.

On the sixth day of Thanksgiving

To borrow from a Christmas song, let’s count down the six days until stuffed turkey day with a daily dose of humor. Check back every day for a different humorous look at the feast we all love so much.

The Seven Days of Thanksgiving!

(NOTE: CLICK ON THE CARTOON TO SEE IT IN ITS ENTIRETY.)

To borrow from a Christmas song, let’s count down the seven days until stuffed turkey day with a daily dose of humor. Check back every day for a different humorous look at the feast we all love so much. And let’s count our blessings during these difficult times for the things we have instead of lamenting the things we don’t. I personally am thankful for my wonderful wife, my four children, six grandchildren and all of the many family members and friends who have given me their support.

Beware of giving gift cards

Hey, folks, here is a consumer tip for the holidays sent to me by my wife, Barbara, through another source. I just wanted you to be aware.

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards

Another plea for Christmas cards for soldiers

Thanks to Annette for sending in this suggestion:

When you are doing Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to  this address.  If we pass this on and everyone sends one  card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

Here is the address: Read the rest of this entry »
